Welcome to ThingamaShop
“We build cool things!”
You may have taken woodshop, metal shop, even electronics. But ruling the world as mad scientists today is a multi-disciplinary endeavor. I was looking to attend some of these communal Maker shops to start expanding my skills and creating opportunities, but then I thought, “Why cross the bridge?” I’ve got a perfectly good space and several friends and family with mad skills that all like the same creative outlets. Why not form our own secret society of innovative gurus. A place for friends a family to gather and “Build cool things!”
I created this online forum to facilitate this and focus on interdisciplinary building skills and information. The goal is to share information and resource within our own group but I’m going to make it public so others can easily contribute and learn from our efforts. Of course we’ll have our private corner to keep our evil doings secret (and provide a private and safe place for our kids to converse and plan). If others stumble upon and want to create their own chapter I will gladly provide a similar private message board…just ask. Maybe we can even have some cross chapter gatherings. My goal is not to create the next Cub Scouts or 4H Club with a builder theme, but if that happens organically then I’d be thrilled to facilitate.
The format I propose is simple. We’ll get together at semi-regular times to discuss projects, build things, and play with our creations. Low pressure but high enthusiasm. I’m thinking we shoot for twice a month weekend gatherings with adhoc evening build sessions during the week for those that want to get together more.
